Fan Edits
I've been into fan vids/edits since they were AMVs and MVs set to Linkin Park lol. I'm not super skilled at editing, but it's something I've always enjoyed tinkering with and would love to get back into at some point (I have a very specific Ethel Cain/Twin Peaks vision I'd like to make a reality).
Most of these are from the 2010s when my sis and I were doing similar projects together, and even briefly had a joint editor account on youtube (blessedly now defunct haha). Videos are listed in somewhat order from oldest to most recent.
As always, heed the CWs for each video.
CW: spoilers, flashing, blood, stabbing, drugs, gross feather skin, and knees going the wrong way
Video Source: Black Swan
Audio: O Death - Jen Titus
2013 me was obsessed with Black Swan, sort of in the coquette way and very much the mentally ill teen sorta way haha. Lots of stuff I'd change now personally, but it's a good reference to where I started when it comes to editing!
Also, huge fan of the grayscale + red blood, i was onto something there lol.
CW: hanging body in bg shot, brief flashing
Video Source: Girl, Interrupted
Audio: Manic - Plumb
Another "obsessed with this movie in a mentally ill kind of way" edit. I think this was made during a difficult time in high school. Short, sweet, and I think it still holds up.
CW: flashing, non-detailed nudity, violence, and brief implications of CSA
Manga Source: Battle Royale Manga
Audio: Molly - MSI
Eesh. I tend to like really messed up female characters (this hasn't changed at all in the 10+ years since this video) and Mistuko from the Battle Royale manga was one of my favorites from around this time.
This one was part of a Multi Editor Project (MEP), and I wanted to try something different for it. I'd seen people edit with manga panels before and I wanted to give it a shot for myself. It works in some places, not so much in others, and the export/upload messed with the timing I think.
Either way, a good learning experience, even if it's hella dated now haha.
CW: themes of historical institutionalization, brief non-graphic violence
Video Source: 12 Minute Teaser Created by DLB
Audio: Black - The Birthday Massacre, Willow - Emilie Autumn, Words from the Asylum - Emilie Autumn
This is a simple edit done for a unserious head-canon prior to the release of Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival. Emilie Autumn, who plays the Painted Doll in both Devil's Carnival films, released a little promo video to advertise her role in it. The idea for the edit is supposed to be after Emily-with-a-y dies at the end of The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls (spoilers, sorry lol), she descends to hell and takes up the identity of the Painted Doll.
This was also a test to see if I could replace the audio from a pre-existing clip and make it convincing. I think as long as you don't actually play violin, it works pretty well haha.
CW: none
Video Source: various videos of Veronica Varlow & Burke Heffner (sources were on an old laptop)
Audio: Pompeii - Bastille
Well this one aged poorly lol.
Originally meant to be a cute ad/support edit for Veronica Varlow and Burke Heffner's film project Revolver. Unfortunately, the film never saw the light of day due to divorce, but none the less, I think it's still a cute video.
CW: none
Video Source: various Emilie Autumn concert videos (sources were on an old laptop)
Audio: Dead Girl - Kidney Thieves
This was a gift for one of Emilie Autumn's back up performers (also known as Bloody Crumpets), Contessa Montabello. I think it was for her birthday, but don't quote me on that. Contessa's whole shtick was that her character in The Asylum liked to play with fire and spin in the air just a little too much.
Oh and she ate people.
Please excuse the absolute potato quality, I had to redownload this one from Facebook of all places haha.
